소강석 목사, 아프리카 케냐 나이로비에서 열린 '한, 아프리카 협력을 위한 컨퍼런스' 첫째날 환영 만찬회에서 스피치를 했습니다. 사실상 2030 부산 엑스포 유치를 위한 모임이었습니다. 아쉽게도 아프리카 정상들은 참석하지 않았고 장관이나 대사들이 참석했습니다. 물론 둘째날 저녁에는 몇몇 정상들이 참여한다고 합니다. 저는 영어로 스피치를 했고 엉성했지만 반응은 제일 컸습니다.
제가 한 연설 내용을 아래에 게제합니다.

한∙아프리카 상호 협력 발전을 위한 포럼 연설문
존경하는 장관님 그리고, 아프리카 지도자 여러분, 안녕하십니까? 저는 한국교회 총연합회 대표회장을 역임했고 지금은 ‘글로벌 에듀’ 이사장으로 섬기고 있는 소강석 목사입니다. 오늘 제가 이 자리에 서서 몇 마디 말씀을 드리게 되어서 큰 영광으로 생각합니다.
제가 어렸을 때는 우리나라가 엄청나게 후진국이었습니다. 그래서 제가 초등학교를 다닐 때 미국이 공급해준 옥수수 가루와 분유가루를 공급을 받아먹고 자랐습니다. 그런데 제가 청년 시절에는 개발도상국이었습니다.
개발도상국 시절에는 선진국이 되려고 온 국민이 노력을 하였습니다. 그 결과 지금은 세계 선진국 중에 한 나라가 되었습니다. 지금은 세계 9위가 되는 선진국이 된 것이죠. 개발도상국이 엊그제 같았는데 눈을 떠보니 선진국이 되어 있었던 것입니다.
그런데 이 선진국은 우리의 힘만으로 된 것이 아니었습니다. 140여 년 전, 선교사님들이 우리나라에 와서 학교와 병원을 세워주셨습니다. 특별히 학교를 세워서 문맹인들에게 문명을 깨우쳐주고 새로운 지성을 갖도록 해주었습니다. 이러한 학교들과 교육이 없었다면 오늘날 대한민국의 번영과 발전은 불가능했을 것입니다.
지금은 우리나라가 선진국이 되어 교육시설과 인프라가 충분해서 교회가 그런 일을 할 필요가 없게 되었습니다. 그래서 한국교회는 우리나라보다 더 GNP가 낮은 개발도상국을 돕는 활동을 하고 있습니다.
우리나라가 교육 덕분에 오늘의 선진국이 된 것처럼 아프리카의 나라들도 저희들의 교육지원으로 인해 부지런히 선진국이 되길 기도합니다. 그 일을 우리나라가 앞장서고 특별히 우리 글로벌 에듀가 앞장 설 것입니다. 글로벌 에듀는 개발도상국에게 병원과 학교를 지어주고 있습니다. ‘글로벌 에듀는 지난 번에 아프리카에 학교를 2개 지었고 이번에 와서도 2개 학교 기공식을 하였습니다. 앞으로 학교를 지을 뿐만 아니라 교육시설과 시스템, 프로그램도 지원해 드릴 것입니다.
저는 기왕에 이 자리에 선 김에 우리나라를 소개하고 자랑하고 싶습니다. 우리나라는 세계로부터 원조를 받은 나라에서 최초로 원조를 해주는 나라가 되었습니다. 한국전쟁의 말로 할 수 없는 폐허 속에서도 대한민국이라는 선진국의 꽃을 피워냈습니다.
그 중심에 부산이라는 도시가 있었습니다. 6.25 한국전쟁 때 공산군으로부터 나라를 거의 다 빼앗기고 달랑 부산만 남았습니다. 그런데 그 부산에서 힘을 다시 결집하여 낙동강 전선을 뚫고 계속 북진을 하였고 오늘의 눈부신 대한민국을 이루게 된 것입니다.
그러므로 부산광역시는 오늘의 대한민국을 있게 한 최후의 보루였고 대한민국의 혼과 정신이 아직도 숨 쉬고 있는 곳입니다. 더구나 부산은 세계 최고로 아름다운 항구도시입니다.
여러분, 부산 해운대를 와보셨는지요? 또 부산 기장 앞바다를 보셨는지요? 태고적의 신비로움과 현대 문화가 조화를 이루는 얼마나 아름다운 바다의 도시인지 모릅니다. 마치 모든 소리가 세이렌의 노래로 들릴 정도로 아름답고 고혹적인 항구 도시입니다. 저는 대한민국 국민으로서, 대한민국 종교 지도자로서 여러분이 2030년도 엑스포에 부산으로 오시면 좋겠다는 마음이 강렬합니다.
만약에 여러분들이 2030년도 부산 엑스포에 오시게 된다면 여러분은 환상의 도시에 오시는 듯 착각을 하게 될 것이고 세이렌의 앞바다를 지나가는 듯한 매혹적인 여행을 경험하게 될 것입니다. 여러분, 부산을 응원해 주십시오. 부산을 사랑해 주십시오. 부산 엑스포를 위하여 박수를 쳐주시기 바랍니다. 대단히 감사합니다.
Honorable prime ministers & African Leaders, I am Pastor Kang-Seok So, the former Chairman of the United Christian Churches of Korea, who served as chairman and now as chief director of Global Edu. I am really honored to be standing here and say a few words.
When I was a child, my country was highly underdeveloped. That is why when I was in elementary school, I had grown up eating corn powder and powdered milk supplied by the U.S. However, Korea suddenly became a developing country when I grew up as a young man. I can still recall the whole nation struggled to join the ranks of advanced countries at that time. As a result, Korea has become one of the leading countries, and it is now the 9th-largest economy in the world. It seems like only yesterday that we were very poor, but we have become an advanced country in the blink of an eye.
However, this success was not on our own. 140 years ago, Christian missionaries came to my country. They built not only hospitals but also schools. They enlightened the illiterates and gave them new intelligence by teaching them in the school. Without the education provided by these schools, my country would not have been able to see today’s prosperity and development.
However, since Korea has already become an advanced country, and there are plenty of schools in Korea, Korean churches no longer have to play such a role for our own country. Instead, we would like to help the countries with lower GDP than Korea.
I pray that African countries will be advanced through education. Korea will lead the way, and of course, global edu will support you together. Global Edu built schools and hospitals for the developing countries. We have already built two schools in Africa and held ground-breaking ceremonies for the construction of two more schools this time. We plan to build schools and support the education facilities, system and program in the future.
I am very grateful for the opportunity to proudly introduce my country, the Republic of Korea. Korea is the first country that a recipient became a donor. The recipient country, which once received aid from the international community, has now become a donor country that helps others countries. Even from the tragedy of Korean War, the country blossomed into a flower of prosperity and became a leading country in the world.
There is a city called Busan at the center of the story. During the Korean War, almost all of South Korea's cities and territories were taken by North Korean communist army. Busan was the last city left in South Korea from the North Korean communist attack. However, Korean gathered their power in Busan and push the North Korean army back to cross the Nakdong River and march toward the North. Finally, Korea completely restored today's territory and accomplished a remarkable development like now. Therefore, I believe that Busan Metropolitan City was the last stand that made today's Republic of Korea exist, and the soul and spirit of Korea are still breathing in the city.
Moreover, I am sure that Busan is one of the most beautiful port cities in the world. Have you ever been to Busan? Have you ever seen the Ki-Jang seashore in Busan? You wouldn’t know how beautiful a coastal city it is in utter harmony with traditional wonders and modern culture. All ringing sounds amid Busan sound like the song of Siren. As you know, the meaning of siren is fascinating music of the sea. I, as one of Korean citizen as well as a leader of religion, look forward to seeing you at the Busan Expo in 2030.
If you visit the Busan Expo in 2030, you may feel like you are in a fantasy city and have a fascinating experience as if you could pass the front sea of Siren. Everyone, please encourage Busan and love Busan. Please give a big appraisal for Busan. Thank you very much.
